📖PLOT:
The Mystery Guest by Nita Prose is a whodunit murder thriller of a high-profile personality which sends the literary world into a tizzy.
A world renowned author, J.D. Grimthorpe, about to deliver a sensational press conference, drops dead in the tearoom floor of the Regency Grand Hotel before he could deliver his revelation.
All eyes are on Molly Gray, the Head Maid, who was responsible for overseeing the entire preparation of the press conference.
But Molly does hold the key to a lot of mystery regarding the author....
✒️VERDICT:
🥇Pros:
🔑The author did a commendable job in developing the connection between Molly and Grimthorpe which kept me thinking till the end whether she actually had a role to play in the murder. The build-up was good as the author left crumbs of twists in each chapter which ensured that I anxiously kept turning the pages to find answers.
🔑I loved how the author created each and every character with a humane touch instead of simply treating them like possible suspects which is prevalent in thrillers.
🔑Molly's grandma is a very inspiring character who never broke her dignified stand despite facing adversity in terms of monetary prospects and treatment at her workplace.
🔑Mr. Preston's character shone bright as he intelligently conducted his interactions with the guests as a butler at the Regency Hotel. His camaraderie with Molly warmed my heart.
👎Cons:
⚰️The ending could have been more impactful. The culmination of the investigation was not as climatic as I expected it to be, possibly due to the fact that the murderer was introduced as a suspect during the course of the book which took away the 'mind-boggling suspense element' at the end.
⚰️Also, the author tried to club a lot of minor twists at the end which certainly added to the allure of the book but could not leave me substantially satisfied which I anticipate at the end of any thriller.
⚰️My expectation from any thriller is to leave me flabbergasted & force me to ponder on the conclusion when I finish reading it. The storyline did evoke this kind of excitement but only to a certain extent.
Overall, I feel The Mystery Guest by Nita Prose can be recommended as an enjoyable one-time read.
