My Swapna - A Tale of Lost Love, Nostalgia and Rebirth

📗BOOK: My Swapna
📗AUTHOR: Tapan Ghosh
📗GENRE: Contemporary Fiction
📗THEME: Love, relationships and rebirth
📖RATING:
 ⚡Storyline: 3.9/5
⚡Literature: 4/5

📝PLOT:

Harry is successful septuagenarian living his life in a penthouse in Colaba and manages his factories across Mumbai. Despite his luminary life in Mumbai, he yearns for his hometown Kolkata, erstwhile known as Calcutta during his youth, which used to be a glorious city during pre-Independence. Harry fervently wishes to restore Calcutta to its former glory.

Harry found an intimate connection with Swapna which never wavered despite long years of separation. With the help of certain key characters like Raima, Shom, and Khush, Harry had been able to rekindle his romance during the end circle of his life.

✒VERDICT:

🥇Pros:

1) This book portrays the intimate emotions of human nature in a very lucid and passionate manner which was evident when the author described Harry’s nostalgia for his hometown Calcutta, his joy and contentment on reconnecting with Swapna and to a certain extent, his inexplicable attachment towards Raima.

2) I was touched by the intensity of the plot spanning across two generations delving into the depth of love and togetherness of the key characters which subtly or directly impacted Harry and Swapna’s relationship. It felt surreal and I would commend on depth of the storyline created by the author.

👎Cons:

1) This book is a sequel to ‘The Saga of Shom and Raima’ and so directly delving into the 2nd part might become a bit confusing at certain places even though the author has started the book by giving a backstory.

2) The transitions could have been better and the sentence construction could do with more work.

💫Overall, I recommend the readers to start by reading the Book 1 first to get a better context and understanding of the second part of the series.
